Role of a Midfielder

Midfielders play a pivotal role in a football team. There are numerous roles a midfielder must perform, some of which include keeping possession of the ball, attacking and defending, setting up goals and keeping the fluency of possession for their team.
They must break down the opposition attack, join in their teams attack, create plays and their passes must be accurate and well weighted depending on the situation.
Skills required by a Midfielder
Expert passes of the ball
Kick with both feet
Great vision
Deliver the ball accurately to teammates
Dribble well
Shoot well
Very fit (great endurance to get up and down the field)
Great attacking and defending
Keeping possession of the ball
Find solutions under pressure
Always holds good position to receive the ball
Different types of Midfielder Positions
Centre Midfielder
Good in the air, strong in the tackle
Wide Midfielder
Great crosser of the ball, very fast
Holding or Defensive Midfielder
Plays more defensive, receives the ball from defense more often, breaks down opposition attacks
Attacking Midfielder
Sets up goals for forwards, great shooter, great vision, ability to dribble and beat defenders one on one
The attacking midfielder commands more money today if they are able to score goals. A prime example of this is Frank Lampard of Chelsea Football Club and Steven Gerrard of Liverpool Football Club.
